Features

Severe Weather® Exterior Paint is formulated for easy application and outstanding, durable performance. Severe Weather resists fading, peeling and blistering, chalking and tannin stains. It also gives a mildew resistant coating and can be applied in temperatures as low as 35°F.

Coverage

Covers up to 400 sq. ft. per gallon. Do not thin.

Where to Use

Use Valspar Severe Weather® Exterior Paint on properly prepared exterior siding and trim surfaces including hardboard siding, primed metal, shakes, shingles, brick, cement, cinderblock, stucco, concrete, stone, galvanized steel and aluminum siding. Do not use on glazed surfaces such as brick, tile and masonry or on walking surfaces such as floors and steps.

Preparing the Surface

Read the Lead Warning in Cautions section. Clean all surfaces thoroughly, removing all dirt, dust, chalk, rust, grease wax and mildew, and allow to dry.

Application

Paint only when air or surface temperatures are between 35-90°F. Do not paint if temperatures are expected to be below 35°F within 48 hours after application or when heavy dew or precipitation is expected in the next 12 hours. Stir paint well and intermix containers of the same color. Start at the highest point of the house and work across. Always paint back into freshly painted areas and end up at a door, window or outer edge. Move windows after one hour to prevent sticking.

Dry Time

Dries to the touch in 1 hour. Recoat in 4 hours.

Lead Warning

WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.
