Coverage

Coverage will vary greatly depending on amount of texture desired and number of coats applied. One gallon will cover approximately 40-90 sq. ft. (3.7-8.4 m²). Do not thin.

Where to Use

Use on properly prepared interior plaster, drywall, ceilings, furniture and arts and crafts. Do not apply to heavily used surfaces such as trim, woodwork, etc., or areas exposed to moisture.

Preparing the Surface

Clean and dry surface thoroughly, removing all dirt, dust, rust, grease and wax. Scrape off loose paint. Plaster cracks and spot prime. Application over a flat sheen is recommended. Dull glossy surfaces with sandpaper or gloss remover. Remove chalky residue and prime unpainted plaster and wallboard with a latex wall primer. Prime all previously painted surfaces with an interior PVA latex primer or stain blocking primer to provide a smooth, uniform surface.

Application

Refer to the Valspar® Signature Colors® Faux How-to Guide for detailed instructions, different techniques and helpful hints for a successful project. Practice your technique beforehand on cardboard. Tips: Keep roller tray and open can of Textured Stone covered with a dampened cloth towel to keep from drying out during application. 1. Using a 1/2" nap roller, apply a light coating to a 3' x 3' area in a random pattern. Some areas on surface should have finish applied thicker than others to enhance the effect. 2. Before using a stencil, stamp, or any other tool, smooth Textured Stone with a trowel by lightly knocking down the texture flat on the wall. Create your desired pattern or effect. Let dry at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. 3. Apply Valspar® Signature Colors® Faux Glazes using a 3/8" nap roller cover. Roll glaze over the dried texture in random directions covering it completely with a uniform coating of glaze. Work in 3' x 3' sections. Use a damp cotton rag or towel to soften and remove excess glaze before it dries. Use a light swirling motion with the rag to eliminate any lap marks or stipple patterns from the roller. Remove as much or as little glaze as you choose. 4. For a softer, more blended appearance you may stipple the surface with a stippling brush as a final step. Blend glazed areas together while the glaze is still damp.

Dry Time

Dries to touch in 1-2 hours. This product will stay workable for up to 30 minutes. Avoid drafts from fans, open windows, etc. to prevent premature drying. Surface and air temperatures should be between 55-75°F. Allow Textured Stone to dry overnight before applying glaze.

WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop.
